Video Messaging Available at Neighborhood Centers

Do you have a loved one deployed? Are you communicating via written email? If so, Picerne Military Housing offers a special way for you to contact your loved one.

In 2004, Picerne installed two Communication Kiosks in the Ardennes and Nijmegen Neighborhood Centers for on-post residents.

The kiosks aim to build family cohesiveness by providing an alternate source of communication during a time of deployment.

They can send text emails, photos taken at the kiosk and streaming video lasting up to one minute. They are specially designed for Picerne and are very easy to use. Residents may use the machines as frequently as they like, but there is a 10-minute limit per session in order to allow others to use the machine. Children under the age of 18 must be supervised while using the kiosk.

The Nijmegen Neighborhood Office which features a Communication Kiosk and computer lab is located at 2 Douve Place. Its phone number is (910) 436-4743.

The Ardennes/Bataan/Bastogne Gables Neighborhood Center which features a Communication Kiosk and computer lab is located at 101 Varsity Drive. Its phone number is (910) 436-6054.

MOMMY AND ME CLASSES OFFERED BY FAYETTEVILLE MUSEUM OF ART

On Friday afternoons, the Fayetteville Museum of Art sponsors Mommy and Me Classes at Picerne’s Neighborhood Centers. Join the museum for story time, exploration of artifacts, and a fun art project. You’ll also be able to check out resources and books to take home with you. Best of all, it’s FREE! Registration is required. For weekly dates and locations, contact the Fayetteville Museum of Art at (910) 485-5121 for more information. Space is limited.

Parent to Parent Workshops

The Fort Bragg Parent to Parent team hosts weekly workshops at Picerne’s Neighborhood Centers. Parent to Parent supports military connected parents/guardians of school-age children as they move through their academic career. Workshop topics, times, and locations vary by week. Some popular topics are “Staying Connected During Deployment,” “High School Transitions,” “School Transitions,” “School Portfolios,” and “Preparing Your Child for Kindergarten.” For more information, contact BraggP2P@yahoo.com or call (910) 494-1663.

Free Childcare

Child and Youth Services is offering free childcare on March 10, April 14, and May 19 for parents with deployed spouses. Advanced reservations are required and spaces are limited. For more information about the program for infant to preschool aged children contact 396-4733. For more information about the program for children in kindergarten through 4th grade, call 396-2011. CYS membership is not required.

TELEPHONE EMERGENCY AND 911

Many Fort Bragg residents have recently experienced problems when calling 911 from internet, cable or cellular phones.   You may need to register your home’s local address with your phone provider to prevent your 911 calls from being misrouted to an emergency call center far away from Fort Bragg .   Registering your address will ensure your calls are made to a local call center and will decrease the response time for ambulance and police services.

DONATE TO THE AIRBORNE ATTIC

Fort Bragg ’s ACS Airborne Attic is looking for your household items that you no longer want.   Items must be in good usable condition.   Large items can be picked up on the first Thursday of the month.   Call 907-2842 for more details.

The Airborne Attic is open for E-4’s and below to include their immediate family members only.   These items are free of charge and do not need to be returned.   E-5 and above will be allowed to use the Attic on an emergency basis only with approval from the Relocation Assistance Manager.   Donations of clean, good condition household items, such as, clothing; baby and children’s items; and usable furniture, appliances and electronics are needed on an ongoing basis.

Saving Soldiers One Drop At A Time……DONATE BLOOD

Each and every month Fort Bragg requires 667 potential donors to meet the blood needs of the soldiers and their families as well as retirees and other authorized recipients. Fort Bragg is the supplier of it’s own blood supply, but with the numerous reasons for deferrals and current operational commitments, that blood supply is shrinking while requirements are increasing. The Blood Donor Center is located in building, 8-2809, Scott Street , call us at 396-9925.
